What is Cellulite?
Cellulite is a very common, harmless skin condition that causes lumpy dimpled skin on the hips, buttocks, thighs or abdomen. This condition is most prevalent in women. It happens in the lower layers of the skin, giving the skin a cottage cheese or orange-peel appearance. It is not a result of weight gain as you may think but usually it is genetic, or a result of hormonal changes leading to dimpling and skin surface textural abnormalities. It involves fibrous connective cords that tether the skin to the underlying muscle, with the fat lying between. As fat cells accumulate, they push up against the skin, while the long, tough cords pull down. This creates an uneven surface or dimpling. Other factors, such as weight and muscle tone affect whether you have cellulite, though even very fit people can have it.
At NOVA DERM INSTITUTE we use Exilis. It is an excellent solution to reduce the cellulite for one to two years, post four treatments, performed at regular intervals.
How does it work?
Exilis smooths and tightens skin, targets fat cells, and offers an effective cellulite treatment by utilizing radio-frequency technology. Exilis stimulates collagen production to tighten skin and reduce cellulite. Minimally invasive technology uses thermal energy aimed to dissolve fat cells and tighten surface skin giving a flawless smooth appearance.
What to expect during your treatment?
The patient lies down and the sensation is compared to a hot stone massage. Treatment sessions usually take 20 to 30 minutes depending on the surface area.
What to expect after your treatment?
It is encouraged to drink plenty of water after your session. After one Exilis treatment, you should start to see the skin tighten, but it will take two to three months after the end of your four to six treatments to see the best results.
What are the benefits of this treatment?
There are so many benefits to Exilis. It is approved for all skin types with little to no preparation and very little down time. It is a minimally invasive procedure that leaves your skin smoother and less dimply. It shrinks fat cells while tightening skin and improving the overall texture of the skin. The results are smoother natural looking skin.
Does it hurt?
There’s little to no discomfort with an Exilis treatment. The sensation is compared to a hot stone massage.
What are the side effects?
There may be some redness and slight bruising in the treated area. This usually subsides within a few days. Immediately after treatment, especially when the treatment involves the face, swelling may occur in a very few cases.
How many treatments will you need?
It usually takes four to six treatments, two weeks apart, to see the full benefits of the program. Depending on your skin type it may take less or more.
How to prepare for the treatment?
There is very little preparation required before undergoing Exilis treatments. The treatment area should be free from any active inflammatory skin disease. You should drink six to eight glasses of water the day before to ensure adequate skin hydration for optimum results.
Is this treatment permanent?
Cellulite may reoccur in 12 months. Most clients get maintenance once a year, follow up visits are usually one to treatments each year.
Who can get this treatment?
Anyone who is experiencing cellulite and desires smooth, dimple free skin. All skin types will benefit from this treatment.
